This piece was inspired by the way leaves swirl and fall through the air during autumn. My goal was to capture the moment when the air has blown the leaves up and then stops and the leaves are falling gently down. Floating Leaves is made from handmade paper and copper. I painted the paper leaves in encaustic medium and then scribed texture on them. The metal leaves were cut from thin copper and repoussed to resemble different types of leaves. They are sewn together and are attached to a background made from textured encaustic medium and white oil paint. It is framed in a hand made wooden box and ready to hang. The dimentions are 8 ½ x 41 ¾ x 1 ½.
